Lasers, intelligent machines, optical fibers, acoustic devices and what not!No, I am not talking about a Star Trek episode. It’s all about our oil fields!
Don’t be flabbergasted. It’s Reality.
Intelligent machines have already made their debut on oil fields and very soon we will say goodbye to many of our manually operated machines of the 20th century.
But then there are many rebuttals from ignorant people who will give no reasons for their belief that age old procedures and technologies are the best bet for oil fields.
To give a new thought to an existing process or technology is not much appreciated in many of our institutes. This is much more of a problem in our industry as the capital expenditures are very high and nobody would like to experiment with their money!
So, what to do???
We have to challenge our existing procedures and technologies if we wish to get the most from our fields.
But then what about high CAPEX?
It’s surely a risk. But then we can turn it into calculated risk rather than being a gambler’s risk.
First of all we need to think different. We have to work with all our zest. Challenge old ideas and bring on the new ones! However, we should not always be reproachful.
Instead we should be logical, practical and obviously smart!
We define smart as an apparently intelligent action. So, not only we should think about some useful AI gizmo’s for the field but also on how to operate smartly on mature fields to get the most from them.
We need practical and optimal solutions. That’s it!!!
